In August every year the heart of Stockholm pulsates with a vibrant combination of culture and festivities. It’s time for the Cultural Festival of Stockholm! Since its launch in 2006 the festival has quickly become a regular event and a great success among both Stockholm residents and visitors.
This year’s festival is characterised by the summer’s large reunion with Finland – a country that was part of Sweden until 1809. On stage after stage our Finnish friends will appear and bring fine gifts with them. There will be saunas, melancholic tango, underground music, Finnish indie and hard rock when Finland joins the festival.
Suomi Safari
Place: Gustav Adolfs torg
Thu 13 Aug
The night starts with a large concert featuring Radiosymfonikerna (Swedish radio symphony orchestra) and the guest artists Markus Krunegård, Frida Hyvönen, Eino Grön, Anette Olzon from Nightwish and Arja Saijonmaa.
Two popular Finnish bands finishes the night, first Värttinä with their modern world/folk music followed by Apocalyptica and their fusion of classical music and metal.
If this band confuses anyone in the audience, they are not the least bit worried about it. "We are doing something new, which creates confusion that either leads to hate or attraction," says the band’s foremost composer, Toppinen. Apocalyptica’s unique style and raw energy have made them one of the world’s most respected rock bands and have played more than 500 concerts in 60 countries. Now, they will be guests at Gustav Adolfs torg.
The night is presented by swedish/finnish tv personality Pekka Heino.
